Leslie Rolnick
A lifelong pursuit, painting is a means of expressing my interior life,
influenced by my external reality and experiences. It is my personal form of spirituality – of being in the present, where time, conscious thoughts, and distractions are completely suspended. My work reflects the influence of my experiences, intuition, dream imagery and moods. When I’m painting, my choice of palette, mark making and forms begin randomly with no preconceived direction or goal in mind. There is a call and response between myself and the work that organically evolves, vacillating between conscious structure and unconscious material that comes alive in the process. I paint until the work feels right and I have said all that is needed for that particular “moment.” I am only involved in the immediacy and problem solving of the work and the excitement of the unfolding process. Mixing color, creating textures and forms, applying and pushing paint, is an endless source of fascination. While I was trained traditionally, my transition to becoming an abstract expressionist painter in the past several years has been a revelation, using stronger colors and feeling freer to experiment. My personal commitment as an artist is to create art that is expressive and meaningful for me. For the viewer, I hope that my art touches and inspires in ways that are meaningful for you.
